26 Jun Kids in the Kitchen
Supported by The Association of Junior Leagues International, Inc., the goal of Junior Leagues’ Kids in the Kitchen initiative is to empower youth to make healthy lifestyle choices and help reverse the growth of childhood obesity and its associated health issues.
Children’s health and wellness has been a key issue for Junior Leagues since our founding in 1901. Today, a critical element of our ongoing commitment is teaching kids and their parents about the importance of eating healthy foods and involving them in the fight against childhood obesity.
In 2016-2017 the Junior League of Spartanburg partnered with the Hub City Farmers’ Market to establish a bi-monthly tent at which kid-friendly recipes and snacks were available. This coincides with JLS’s Kids in the Kitchen initiative. JLS provides a healthy snack and explains the nutrition behind it and that it is important to practice health eating habits at home. In addition to providing a healthy treat, a recipe card is provided so the snack could be replicated at home.
August 18th – Colgate Bus will be there!
*Kids in the Kitchen starts at 8am and ends at 12 noon at Hub City Farmers Market*
The Hub City Farmers’ Market is a market held every Saturday from the spring through November/December at the Northside Harvest Park in Spartanburg. The Market provides fresh, local, seasonal goods. The Market is “producer only” meaning that everything sold is grown or produced by the vendor selling it.
