Who We Are

The Junior League of Spartanburg, Inc. (JLS) is an organization of women committed to promoting voluntarism, developing the potential of women and improving the community through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Its purpose is exclusively educational and charitable.

What We Do

Since 1940, the Junior League of Spartanburg has effectively worked to help women, children and families. JLS has grown to an organization with over 500 members, including attorneys, teachers, marketers, stay-at-home moms and everything in between. JLS has contributed over 1.6 million volunteer hours and over $1.5 million to the Spartanburg community.

Our History

In 1940, a group of local women identified a need in our community and organized the Junior Charity League of Spartanburg with 35 charter members. After serving the community for 8 years, the League applied for admission to the Association of Junior Leagues of America (AJLA) in 1948.

Each fall, JLS welcomes a new class of Provisional Members. Informational meetings are held each Spring/Summer for those who are interested in joining the League. Potential JLS members should be at least 21 years of age (or a Senior at a 4-year college) and reside or work in Spartanburg County.

Our Board of Directors consists of 9 Active League Members, with 37 additional members making up our entire Leadership Team in the areas of Finance, Community, Communications, and Membership.

The Junior League of Spartanburg relies on donations and fundraisers to continue to fund our community project initiatives. We welcome monetary and in-kind contributions from individuals, corporations and foundations to help us reach our Annual Fund goal each year.
